A native speaker of French, German and English. Her mother was a violinist, and her father is professor of theater at one the top drama schools in Romania. Her role as a character in Cristian Mungiu's Romanian art film, 4 luni, 3 weeks, 2 days (4 months 3 weeks and 2 days) has earned her both three weeks and a day. Palme d'Or Award at the Cannes Film Festival 2007 and two additional awards: the Cinema Prize for the French National Education System as well as the FIPRESCI Prize. Additionally, she was a part in Francis Ford Coppola's film Youth Without Youth. She appeared as Yasim Awar in the BBC's 5 episode The Last Enemy miniseries. Marinca appeared in her role in the Romanian drama Boogie and Oliver Hirschbiegel's award-winning Five Minutes of Heaven. The actress later played a significant character in the 2014 movie Fury in which she portrayed a German woman whose name was Irma aunt to Emma.
